Blithe de Carona is a multidisciplinary, conceptual mixed media artist best known for her work in photography, collage and creative writing. Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, her work reflects themes of Blackness, feminine identity, religious trauma, sexual expression & exploration, and defining one’s self after shaking the bonds of familial branding brought on by generational pathology & internalized anti-Blackness. Self-identifying as a Black, Islamic Anarchist; her collage work often features images of Black women donning metaphysical head coverings & her sculpture work is often composed of deconstructed American flags interwoven with synthetic braiding hair. B.N. Blithe de Carona is a radical, queer woman & artist making work that seeks to heal herself & other Black people of the trauma caused by the constant politicization, policing & commodification of their very existence by society at large.
